Gulami ki Zazeeron men jakare dum tor rahe the jo log
Tha, beesvi sadi ka madhy, madhya aayu, dhalti saanjh

Ley kar baithe the nai paneeri, nai aashaen ve log
Bharat ke aakash par nai subheh ki nai umang-tarang

Aage aage hone wala kya bhool gaye the ve log
Sooraj nikla, badal garja, toophan ban jhoola jhakhar

The jante aajadi, nahin janate the rakhwali ve log
Pat se bhookhe, nange tan, bhoole bhatke rah par the anjan

Garden uthae jhank rahe the, nai paneeri ke jo log
Un ki drishty pari jab, chamkta sooraj pashchim aur

Aa pahoonche ajnabi satta par, laye udari ve log
Pal bhar men bhool gaye the, peechhe aaye, chhor jo ghar bar

Lagan lie man men, aage aage chalete the ve log
Dhanwan banoon rat lagate, kho gaye bhoolbhallenyan andar

Der ho chuki thi,peeche jab palat kar dekhne lage ve log
Meel pathar ki tarah, sun-masun, gum-sum hosh hawas

Jaise apni mritak dehi ka bhojh dho rohe hain ve log
Bal heen, jardi chahre chite vaster, jaise mritak ka kaphan

Tan ko kapra, pat ko roti, aatm tripti luta baithe ve log
Jis mor se chale the, phir samay usi mor par lai thahraya

Aankhon mea aansu liye ghoomte, dekhne ko muskate yeh log
Kaise kaise apne hridaye ke ghav, chupa kar chalete vicharte

Samay ki aandhi ke mare, ab hai gulam yeh log
Pahle peeche chor aaye the, ab aage choor chale ghar-bar
